ALIGNED MOTHERHOOD LIFE

Perimenopause Can Be Beautiful

Perimenopause can be disorienting. Confusing. A little scary, if you let yourself feel it. It can also be one of the most honest invitations you'll ever get.
Middle age is a built-in pause to reflect, recalibrate, and decide on purpose what you want your next chapter to look like.

I'm Edwige.

I'm in the middle of this myself, and this is where I'm keeping the running journal of what I'm learning.

A Different Way To Think About This Chapter of Your Life

Are You Like Me?

Somewhere between raising little ones, watching my own parents age, dealing with burnout, and feeling my body change in ways I didn't ask for, I started asking a different question.

Not "how do I get back to normal," but instead I started asking, "who do I actually want to become now."

It turns out this chapter isn't really an ending.

It's more like a natural opening (albeit sometimes painful)

It's a chance to recalibrate instead of just gripping the wheel tighter and white knuckling it to the other side.

I'm not writing to you from the other side of it, having figured it out.

I'm writing from inside it, in real time.

Where I Am Right Now

I'm 48 years old.

Married to Michael since 2015.

Raising Henry, who's almost 7, and Nia, who's 3.

Some days that's preschool drop-off and folding the same load of laundry twice.

Other days it's sitting with a client doing deep trauma work.

I trained as a therapist and became an EMDR specialist somewhere along the way.

I also, somewhat unexpectedly, fell in love with homemaking - decluttering a drawer, baking bread, the slow rhythm of a home that's actually tended to.

That's not a break from the career.

It turns out it's part of making my life as a mom and therapist more fulfilling.

This is where I write about all of it: the marriage, the parenting, the body changing underneath me, the home I'm building, and the bigger question of what "success" gets to mean for a woman in this particular chapter.

Not because I've arrived somewhere.

Because I'm still figuring it out — and I'd rather do that with company than alone.

My mission: to invite you to do the same. I find that healing happens in community and when you're not alone.

Sometimes you need to read about how someone else id doing things to inspire you to find and fulfill your own mission.

I hope that this space can be a source of inspiration, permission and collaboration for you, as you navigate your own mid-life journey.

“It's ok to slow down. You don't think you can, because you've spent so much of your life building this identity - but slowing down isn't losing it. It might be the only way to actually keep it.”

A Few Themes I Keep Focusing On During This Transition

The Body Knows

My nervous system runs the show (more than my calendar ever will).

The Quiet Revolution

Slowing down and tending to my home and family home isn't giving up on ambition. Some days it's the most radical thing I do.

The Perimenopause Crossing

What's actually happening in my body, in my relationships, my work, my identity and my sense of self, as I live through it (not the textbook version).

The Wealth She's Allowed to Want

The money stuff nobody wants to say out loud: the shame, the guilt, the wanting more anyway
